Transition Update
Over the past couple of years there has been much talk about changes coming to MCBDD and the way we provide services. Now that 2018 has arrived we are less than a year away from one of those significant changes occurring. On August 31st, MCBDD will discontinue our day program services for individuals attending the Meshel adult workshop. Although we will no longer be the provider for these individuals, that does not mean that the facility will close on August 31st. MASCO will become the service provider for the Meshel facility on September 4th (the day after Labor Day). Individuals that attend the Meshel facility have the option to remain at Meshel and receive services from MASCO or work with their Service and Support Administrator (SSA) to find another day services provider.
This transition date was announced at our May 2017 Board meeting. The August 31, 2018 date was chosen after several months of discussions amongst the transition committee that was comprised of representatives from MCBDD (board members, staff and administration), family members and the provider community. Since the date was announced we have been working toward consolidating our three day program facilities into two due to declining enrollment in our programs. Due to these efforts we have just over 30 individuals still enrolled in the Bev Rd. facility. It is anticipated that these individuals will be asked to transfer to Meshel or the Centre by late spring or early summer 2018. If the current Bev enrollees do not wish to transfer to one of the other MCBDD facilities, their SSA can assist them in finding another day program provider.
There is still a lot of work that needs to be done between now and August 31st to make sure this transition goes as smoothly as possible. MCBDD and MASCO staff are working together to identify any issues or concerns that need to be addressed ahead of the date MASCO assumes operations. Although MCBDD will no longer provide direct services at Meshel after August 31st, we will continue to support all of those individuals through their SSA.
