Leonard Kirtz School - One to One Educational Aide (as needed basis)

  • Description:

    Position Title:                        Substitute One:One

     

    Immediate Supervisor:         Director of Education

     

    Normal Working Hours:      Called as needed

                                                    Hours normally within M-F, 8:30AM-3:30PM

     

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

     

    1. Assist certified teacher/specialist in the education of a specific child with developmental delays in approved curricular areas.

       

    2. Assist in maintaining a safe, family-friendly environment conducive to learning.

       

    3. Assist in implementing lessons and/or behavior programs consistent with the objectives of the student’s individual education plan.

       

    4. Assist in operating equipment, recording responses, and preparing educational materials.

       

    5. Assist in maintaining records/reports.

       

    6. Assist the specific child with physical and personal needs, such as positioning, toileting, feeding and individual clean-ups that may include food spills, incontinence, vomitus and blood spills.

       

    7. Assist with feeding, mobility, which may include walking the student, operation of a wheelchair, transfers, loading and unloading buses, lifts, standers and other adaptive equipment.

       

    8. May work with/assist substitutes assigned to their work area.

       

    9. Must be aware of children with special problems and be constantly alert for any unusual behaviors that might indicate a child needs attention (i.e., seizures).Must be familiar with safety equipment that is needed for adaptive use.

       

    10. Assist in maintaining a safe environment conducive to the physical therapy department.Assist in

       operating equipment, recording responses, scheduling the student for physical therapy and

       physical therapy swim periods, and in transporting the student to and from the physical therapy

       department.  Assist therapist in treatment when requested.

       

    11. Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.

     

     

     

    OTHER FUNCTIONS

     

    1. Shall be available for and attend scheduled meetings and training sessions.
    2. Adhere to all ORC, OAC, MCBDD and lead agency policies and procedures.
    3. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

     

    1. May be exposed to infectious disease.
    2. May work with individuals with behavioral disabilities who display challenging behaviors.
    3. May be exposed to chemicals commonly found in an office environment (i.e., toner, correction fluid, etc.).

     

    REQUIREMENTS

     

    1. Hold appropriate certificate/license as required by the Ohio Department of Education.
    2. High school diploma or G.E.D.
    3. Ability to maintain accurate records.
    4. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information/records.
    5. Maintain valid driver’s license in state of residence.
    6. Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and abuser registry clearances. 
    7. Instructor Assistants in the Early Intervention area must hold and maintain appropriate certification/registration as required by the Ohio DODD.
    8. Maintain all training requirements as per Board Policy.
