Fundraiser Held

The Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities and friends hosted a Cavatelli Dinner and Fundraiser to support the Mahoning County DD Special Olympics on Sunday April 22, 2012. The event was held in the cafeteria at the Leonard Kirtz School from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM and featured a Chinese Auction with 50 themed gift baskets and an exhibition basketball game between MCBDD Staff and the Mahoning County DD Special Olympics Basketball teams. . The meal included cavatelli, salad, roll, beverage and a dessert. The event was very well attended and served over 500 meals. Proceeds totaling over $6.000 were donated to the Mahoning County DD Special Olympics program and will be used to support the athletes in all sports. Special Olympics is a volunteer organization with no salaried personnel. Special Olympics events include: The Mahoning County DD Special Olympics Track and Field Invitational, State Summer Games, Basketball Games and participation in tournaments, bowling practice and participation in tournaments.

Veterms of the Valley Luncheoon Held

As part of the Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month celebrations, the MCBDD honored our �Veterans of the Valley� with a luncheon at Meshel MASCO. The program featured several special presentations to Mr. Dominic Medina. Mr. Medina served our country as a veteran, served our community as Mayor of Campbell and served our county as a Board member for the MCBDD. The veterans viewed a patriotic video, a military display of flight logs and memorabilia from World War II and had the opportunity to meet new and old friends. The event drew over 100 participants, local politicians, media and friends of our program to pay tribute to those who have served the United States in military service of all branches.
